Holistic Medicine for Animals

The holistic veterinary surgeon works in a different way from the more usual veterinary practice. He or she must view the patient as a whole, each organ and tissue interacting with every other and in turn being influenced by every other. No organ or part of the body can be considered in isolation.

In addition, the influence of lifestyle, management, feeding and activity must be carefully considered by the holistic vet, in that they inevitably act upon the patient, having a powerful influence upon the outcome of any medical therapeutic endeavour.

The natural therapies that follow holistic principles are: veterinary homeopathy, veterinary acupuncture (as part of Traditional Chinese Medicine or TCM), herbal medicine, chiropractic manipulation, Bach Flowers, Schuessler Tissue Salts (biochemic tissue salts), Aromatherapy (essential oils) etc. The three major medical systems will be discussed in the linked pages (see left navigation panel).
